Farm in the Park
Excellent day, many thanks to United St Saviours Charity for providing substantial funding. Photos here.
We are still pressing, via Southwark Council, for the remedial works promised by Guinness Partnership/Hill and Partners to be finished. Knee rail on Stead St, plus blocking off walkway along building edge, still needed.
The park boundary to the south of Stead Street flats (Winch/Jardin House) will be tidied up – we would like to invite the designer of the Burgess Park meadows to our next meeting to advise on a different meadow mix to the main park area with a later flowering season to maintain interest for longer. [confirmed] This will mean removing the whitethorn and cherry tree shoots currently occupying the space whilst maintaining (and eventually laying) the hedge along the boundary wall. We would like to involve local park users and residents to help us design the border.
No watering of the new planting is taking place, despite Hill and Partners required to do this under the terms of their planning condition. This is a major problem and we would appreciate help. This also applies to the development planting, which is largely dead or dying.
Our Autumn Event will be on Saturday 23rd September, with a meadow scything demonstration and raking to build a giant haystack.
Sunday 6th August – runs til 21:30 prompt. Music may be loud but won’t last beyond then. Run by Carnaval del Pueblo, but supported by the Friends of Nursery Row Park.
